Soul Country premiered on WTUL, 91.5 FM, New Orleans on January, 27 2019 as a two hour music program, combining a bumper crop of current artists across swamp rock, country blues and soul, along with Stax and outlaw influences, creating a rich tapestry of today’s top talent. Pioneered by award-winning filmmaker and 35-year community radio veteran DJ, Ric Stewart, the format extends to talk/play interviews in the Soul Country podcast launched March 1, 2022. Revitalizing the Americana of westerns, blues and variety, the programs & playlists dig into the sources broached on the Blues Center Interview Series – chock full of stories, humor and inspiration. The 28-Min documentary, seasons 1&2, select trailers and playlists are now online. Made possible with grants from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.
